Welcome to Valley Animal Hospital
Your Veterinarian in Clifton, NJ

If you are looking for the veterinarian that truly goes above and beyond in the care and concern for patients, then Valley Animal Hospital, your animal hospital in Clifton, is the only choice for you and your pet.

Our Clifton Veterinarians’ Philosophy on Pet Care

Dr. Bruce Henderson is the Hospital Director and Owner of Valley Animal Hospital in Clifton, New Jersey. Dr. Henderson graduated from the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. He is particularly interested in internal medicine, knee surgeries and geriatric medicine including rehabilitation. He has always been devoted to animals as evidenced by the 2 German Shepherds, 8 cats and 1 bird that ‘own’ the home he shares with wife Laurie. “Above and beyond” is indeed our motto and it is true we will do whatever we can to ensure our clients are happy and our patients lead healthy lives. We provide a high level of care to our patients in Montclair, Nutley, Clifton, and the surrounding areas, using advanced diagnostics and techniques not found in most animal hospitals. Most importantly, we are firm believers in pet wellness and offer all the necessary wellness services!

Valley Animal Hospital Pet Wellness and Surgery

A yearly examination for younger pets is the first step in ensuring a happy and healthy companion. Senior pets should be seen every six months. During these exams we perform a thorough physical, check the teeth and mouth, give any necessary vaccinations and talk with you about your pet’s diet, exercise and general environment.

Traditional Surgery

Using both conventional and laser surgery, we perform a wide variety of traditional animal surgery procedures including routine spay and neuters, tumor removal, GI tract surgery, mass removal and dental procedures. We also perform advanced surgical procedures including knee surgeries, urinary tract surgery, ear surgery, complex dental procedures and mass removals. We use the latest techniques for anesthesia and monitor your pet every second throughout the procedure.

Laser Surgery

Valley Animal Hospital was one of the first hospitals in the entire Northeast U.S. to utilize this type of surgery in veterinary medicine. We have over 15 years of experience in its use. The laser is a surgical tool developed approximately 20 years ago that generates an intense, very focused light beam that can cut, seal or vaporize tissue. We use it successfully for a wide variety of procedures. Why laser? It results in less pain, bleeding and swelling for your pet, which means he or she can return to normal activity quickly and there is less risk of infection.

Rehabilitation

Our program for helping your pet recover from injury, surgery or illness is more extensive than you will find in any area animal hospital and is testimony to our commitment to helping all pets. Our specific modalities include laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, whole body vibrational therapy, pulsed signal therapy, resistance pool and underwater treadmill. These techniques are primarily used to treat osteoarthritis and patella luxations.

Spay or Neuter your pet

Each year 6 – 8 million cats and dogs enter the U.S. shelter system– fewer than half are lucky enough to find forever homes. The American Veterinary Medical Association reports spaying and neutering adds to the longevity of our furry pals with dogs living an average of 1 to 3 years longer and cats 3 to 5 years more by reducing the risk of certain cancers.

Read What Our Clients Say

  • "Great care of my cat! All the staff were wonderful to deal with and you can tell they really care and love what they do! Thanks for taking care of us!"

  • "Dr. Henderson is a caring Vet. We love him.
We do not, however, love the prices Vets charge. It is more for a pet visit than a human being. I don't know how people with more than one animal afford pet care."
