We are committed to providing the very best care before, during, and after surgery. We want to help ensure that you and your pet are sent home with clear postoperative instructions  so recovery can happen quickly and smoothly. If you'd like to learn more about post-surgery pet care, keep reading.

What to Expect after Surgery

When your pet comes home after his surgery, you can expect him to be groggy and lethargic. There may even be some mild vomiting or diarrhea. These are all normal reactions to the anesthesia.

Follow the Instructions of the Vet

Your vet will provide you with detailed instructions regarding cleaning the incision, changing the bandages, and medication. It's important for your pet's recovery and comfort that you follow these instructions exactly as they are stated. It's also critical that your pet not be allowed to bite or scratch at the incision so your pet may need to wear a cone collar to prevent that.

Things You Can Do to Make Your Pet Feel Better

Your pet will not feel great for a few days following its surgery. He may noy be able to run, jump, or play normally, so it's fine to let him rest for a little bit. Here are a few things you can do:

  • get him a big, comfy bed to rest in
  • give him a few blankets to snuggle with
  • offer some comfort toys that he can just chew or have close by
  • have plenty of fresh water nearby
  • offer light meals but don't force them

Read What Our Clients Say

  • "Great care of my cat! All the staff were wonderful to deal with and you can tell they really care and love what they do! Thanks for taking care of us!"

  • "Dr. Henderson is a caring Vet. We love him.
We do not, however, love the prices Vets charge. It is more for a pet visit than a human being. I don't know how people with more than one animal afford pet care."
